New automotive components regulations for Brazil

Brazil is introducing a new regulation for automotive components. From 21 July 2014 you will need to comply with Portaria No. 301 to get access to the Brazilian market. This regulation covers a wide range of automotive components, including light sources. Naturally we have extended our INMETRO testing and certification scope accordingly.

Certification process
Automotive light sources can only be imported into Brazil if they are appropriately certified. First they have to be tested by an ILAC/EA/IAAC (ISO 17025) accredited laboratory such as DEKRA, and this must be followed up by a factory inspection. Finally there is a documenta- tion review. As soon as one of your products meets all of the requirements, we issue an INMETRO certificate for it. There is a follow-up audit every year and full recertification takes place every four years.

DEKRA is one of the few certification bodies in the world which currently covers all aspects of this process. The main advantage of this is that testing and certification are easier and more efficient, as everything is done by one partner.

Our testing experts are fully familiar with the requirements for Brazil. We can also combine these tests with those needed for other national markets such as Taiwan and those countries where UN ECE test reports and certificates are accepted. This is more efficient and saves both time and costs.

DEKRA’s automotive lighting services
We can test all of your automotive lighting products, from headlamps, tail lamps, rear fog lamps, back-up lamps, brake lamps and direction indicators, to retro-reflectors and reflective marking plates. Tests can be performed according to the UN ECE Regulations, Taiwan and Indian requirements but also according to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for the USA and corresponding standards for Canada. We also offer electrical safety and EMC testing for automotive components, and ISO/TS 16949 certification.
