Korea: new approval arrangements as of July 2012

Korea has two bodies responsible for the approval of electrical and electronic equipment imported into the country:
  • the Korea Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS)
  • the National Radio Research Agency (NRRA)

So far, the arrangement has been:

  • electrical appliances: electrical safety and EMC are handled by KATS
  • broadcasting and communications equipment: electrical safety and EMC are handled by NRRA

As of 1 July 2012 the following arrangement will apply to all electrical appliances and broadcasting and communications equipment:

  • electrical safety approvals are handled by KATS
  • EMC approvals are handled by NRRA

Under the old arrangements the importer received a single KC licence. Under the new arrangements they will receive a KC licence for safety and a KCC licence for EMC. Consequently, all products have to be marked with:

  • KC mark
  • KC licence number
  • KCC licence number
