India WPC: ETA through self-declaration for commercial finished products

WPC (The Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing) through a memorandum dated February 26, 2019 has clarified the types of devices can now obtain an exemption from ETA by filing a self-declaration.

1. Types of devices for the exemption:

  • Mobile / Computing devices, as mobile handsets, smart phones, electronic notepads, laptops, smart watches
  •  Short range devices including accessories, microphones, speakers, headphones, earphones, printers, scanners, cameras, etc.

2. The self-declaration from importer / authorized Indian representative would be treated as sufficient evidence to process such clearances by the Custom and Central Excise Authorities. (Self-declaration format is enclosured as Annex I.)

3.  Import license requirements are as regulated by the Export and Import (EXIM) policy of DGFT.

4.  It is still not clear how to file the self-declaration to WPC. WPC does not accept new ETA applications since February 26, 2019. Outstanding applications would be certified by previous procedure. Please wait for further notice.
