New EU regulation on the energy efficiency of fans (building services and industrial applications)

The European Union has published Commission Regulation (EU) No 327/2011 which contains ecodesign requirements for electric fans with electric input power between 125W and 500kW.

Major emission reductions thanks to new ecodesign
The regulation sets the minimum energy efficiency requirements for the type of electric fans that are typically used in buildings and industrial processes. This is the latest implementation under ErP directive 2009/125/EC.  The first-tier efficiency requirements will apply from 1 January 2013. With this measure the European Union expects to save up to 16 Mt of CO2 emissions by 2020.
