Ecuador: Amendment on Technical Regulation on Energy Efficiency of Street Lighting

As of 20 December 2016, Resolution No. 16514 entered into force to amend Ecuador's existing measure on the energy efficiency of street lighting.

Public lighting is now defined as:

  • Public lighting: the illumination of public road for the use of people, traffic and vehicles. Lighting in common areas of real estate units as horizontal property and ornamental public lighting are, thus, excluded.
  • Intervened street lighting: the illumination of roads that, due to specific requirements for municipalities, do not meet the lighting levels established in the present regulation and/or require a constructive infrastructure that is different from the established standards for general public lighting.
  • Ornamental street lighting: the lighting in areas such as parks, squares, churches, monuments and all other spaces which require aesthetic criteria which are determined by the municipalities or by the relevant competent state bodies.

LED luminaries for public lighting must comply with the requirements laid down in standards IEC 60598-1, IEC-60598-2-3, IEC 61547, EN 55015 or CISPR 15, IEC 61000-3-2 and IEC 61000-3-3 or their equivalent.
