Revisions in South African compliance deadlines for Energy Efficiency and Labeling

On 13 August 2015, the South African Department of Trade and Industry published Notice 710 which extends the Phase 2 and 3 compliance deadlines for certain goods listed in Notice No. 944.

The original Phase 2 compliance deadline of 9 months after the publication for electric ovens, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, tumble dryers, washer-dryer combinations and washing machines has been replaced with 26 February 2016.

The Phase 2 compliance deadline of 12 months after the publication for products already in the market and approved by the NRCS has been updated to 26 May 2016.

Finally, the Phase 3 compliance deadline of 18 months after the publication for air conditioners and heat pumps has been replaced with 28 November 2016.

The products referred to in the above phases must be compliant with the energy efficiency and labeling compulsory specifications set out in the original Notice from these dates.

* Products that are already in the market and approved by the NRCS for safety requirements are to comply with this regulation from 26 May 2016 (replace 28 November 2015).
